UCLA's Ethan Champlin was named on Monday as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) / Molten Men's Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week. He hit .476 on 42 swings with 25 kills in two wins over No. 9 Penn State and No. 8 Ohio State and was named to the All-Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge team. The senior delivered team-high kill totals in both matches for the Bruins who have now won five in a row heading into the exam break.
The outside hitter posted 15 kills and hit .500 in the five set victory over the Nittany Lions. Champlin handled all 18 serve receptions without error. He registered 10 kills and hit .444 with two aces as the Bruins avenged an earlier defeat at the hands of the Buckeyes in straight sets. Champlin averaged 3.4 kills per set for the week.
Champlin has now been the Bruins' team leader in kills in a team-high eight contests this season. He has moved up to fourth on the all-time school rally scoring (since 2001) list with 109 service winners and is tenth in total points (1,037.5). The Oceanside, Calif. product in on target to join the top ten lists for both kills and digs before the end of the season.
