Rising senior Pablo Ereño on the UCLA men's golf team was named a Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholar for the second time in his collegiate career, it was announced by the organization Thursday.
Ereño, a mathematics/economics major, was also named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Third Team Academic All-American earlier this summer. He is the second Academic All-American in program history (other: Patrick Cantlay).
Ereño was selected to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and GCAA West All-Region for the first time in his career in 2023-24. The Spaniard posted a 70.78 scoring average last season, which is good for fifth-best in UCLA single-season history. Ereño ranked second on the squad with six top-10 finishes, eight top 20s, 22 rounds under par and 15 rounds in the 60s. Ereño excelled in the Spring 2024 portion of the schedule, posting top 10s in five of the last six tournaments of the season.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
