Long Beach, Calif. - No. 11/5 UCLA opened the 2024 season with a 3-0 victory at Long Beach State. The Bruins (1-0) scored all three goals in the first half, with Emma Egizii scoring the first and last goals and Bridgette Marin-Valencia recording the second and assisting on the first.

The Bruins' first two goals were scored a little under two minutes apart and were nearly identical. On the first goal, in the 13th minute, Marin-Valencia's shot was blocked by a Long Beach State defender, and the rebound went to Emma Egizii, who one-timed it to the bottom right corner for the season's first score. A minute and a half later, Marin-Valencia was the beneficiary of a rebound, putting in Bella Winn's saved shot in front of the goal.

Egizii scored her second goal of the game in the 39th minute with a strong individual effort that saw her split two defenders and beat Long Beach State goalkeeper Aurora Schuck far post from just inside the box. Egizii's multi-goal game was the first by a Bruin in a season opener since Julia Hernandez scored two in the 2017 opener.
The Bruins kept Long Beach State (0-1) off the board thanks to two saves by goalkeeper Ryan Campbell, one on a free kick in the 26th minute and another off a corner kick in the 61st minute. UCLA outshot the Beach, 18-3. Schuck had nine saves for the Beach. Campbell, who transferred from Stanford in the Spring, earned the shutout in her first game as a Bruin and now has 20 in her career.

UCLA will host UC Riverside on Sunday, Aug. 18 in the Bruins' home opener. The game will take place at 2pm at Wallis Annenberg Stadium and will be broadcast on B1G+.
