LOS ANGELES -- No. 2 UCLA (15-1, 1-1 MPSF West) never trailed in posting an impressive 18-12 road win at No. 7 Pepperdine (14-4) on Saturday afternoon at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool. The Bruins improved to 86-31-1 all-time against Pepperdine with their 25th consecutive win against the Waves, which dates back to the 2008 season.

A total of eight Bruins scored in the game, paced by a season-high eight goals from freshman Ryder Dodd. Dodd, who has scored 33 goals in his last six games, also had four steals, won all three of his sprints, drew two exclusions, had one field block, and added one assist for a total of nine points in the game. Graduate transfer Nico Tierney returned home and scored four goals and had one steal against his former team.

Super senior Garret Griggs got the start in the cage and played all of the first half and the first 3:19 of the third quarter to pick up the win with three saves, three steals, and one assist while allowing eight goals. Redshirt freshman Nate Tauscher came on in relief and had three stops with one assist while allowing four scores in the last 12:41 of the contest.

The Bruins got on the board first when graduate transfer Aaron Voggenthaler scored a power play goal (6:33) off an assist from Dodd. After Pepperdine tied it up at 1-1, the Bruins reeled off four straight goals, two by Tierney, to build a 5-1 lead with 0:53 left in the opening period. The Waves scored two goals in the final minute to trim the Bruins' advantage to 5-3.

Pepperdine would score the first two goals of the second period to tie it up at 5-5. But Dodd scored three unanswered goals to put the Bruins in front 8-5. Freshman Peter Castillo would take a pass from Jack Larsen to score at the buzzer to send the Bruins into the break with a 9-7 lead.

Again the Waves cut into the Bruins' lead with a score to open the third, making it 9-8. But UCLA would take control of the game with four straight scores, including two more by Dodd, to extend the lead to 13-8. Pepperdine sandwiched two goals between a seventh goal from Dodd, to end the scoring in the third with the Bruins leading 14-10 heading into the final stanza.

In the fourth, redshirt junior Eli Liechty and freshman Bode Brinkema scored back-to-back goals (6:37 and 5:12) to put UCLA up comfortably, 16-10. Each team would score two more times to provide the 18-12 final.

Up Next: The Bruins return home to host a triple header on Sunday, Oct. 13. The Bruins will face No. 11 Princeton (1:00 p.m. PT) and Westcliff (3:00 p.m. PT) at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. Then Princeton and Westcliff will face each other at 5:00 p.m. PT. Admission is free.
