No. 2 UCLA Outlasts No. 11 Princeton, 10-8

LOS ANGELES -- No. 2 UCLA (16-1) completed the weekend with a 10-8 win at home over No. 11 Princeton (13-6) on Sunday afternoon at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. UCLA improved to 21-0 all-time against the Tigers. The Bruins were supposed to face Westcliff in a doubleheader, but that game was canceled due to a lack of officials.

A total of nine Bruins scored in the contest, paced by three total points (two goals, one assist) by freshman Ryder Dodd. Dodd was the only Bruin to score multiple goals. He now has scored in the first 17 games of his collegiate career, including 16 games with multiple scores. Additionally, he has found the back of the net 35 times in the last seven games.

Graduate student Garret Griggs got the start in the cage and went the distance, tallying eight saves, three steals, and one assist while surrendering eight goals.

The Bruins scored the first two goals of the game and led wire-to-wire for their second win over Princeton this season. Dodd opened the scoring (5:08) with a strike from the front court and then redshirt junior Eli Liechty scored from two meters off an assist from freshman Bode Brinkema (4:27) to make it 2-0. After a goal by the Tigers, graduate Makoto Kenney ended the scoring in the first with a goal from the front court (0:03) to put the Bruins up 3-1.

The Bruins won the second quarter, 5-4, to take an 8-5 lead into the break. UCLA got one goal each from graduate Aaron Voggenthaler (7:04), graduate Nico Tierney (5:35), redshirt sophomore Frederico Jucá Carsalade (3:27), redshirt sophomore Ben Larsen (2:50), and graduate Jack Larsen (1:09) in the second period.

Dodd opened the third period with his second goal from the front court off a feed from Jack Larsen (7:18) and then Dodd found freshman Peter Castillo for a power play strike (4:22) to double up the Tigers at 10-5. Princeton would score the final three goals of the third to win the quarter, 3-2, trimming the Bruins' lead to 10-8 heading into the final stanza. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth period to provide the 10-8 final.

UP NEXT: The Bruins travel for the crosstown splashdown at No. 3 USC on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1:00 p.m. PT at Uytengsu Aquatics Center before returning home to host No. 13 UC Davis at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center at 1:00 p.m. PT on Sunday, Oct. 20.
