UCLA Softball to Host Alumni Game Nov. 16 at Easton Stadium
October 14, 2024 | Softball
The 12-time NCAA champion UCLA softball program will host an alumni game Saturday, Nov. 16 at Easton Stadium at 1:30 p.m. (PT). The game is free admission and open to the public.
Fans will get an early glimpse of the Bruins' 2025 squad as they go head-to-head with recently-graduated NCAA Champions, All-Americans, all-conference honorees, 2020 Olympians and current professional athletes. Bruins competing for the Alumni Team include Rachel Garcia (2016-21), Madilyn "Bubba" Nickles-Camarena (2016-21), Delanie Wisz (2020-22), Sharlize Palacios (2023-24), Janelle Meoño (2023-24), Brooke Yanez (2023) and Jadelyn Allchin (2024).
All UCLA softball alumni are encouraged to attend the game.
UCLA is coming off a magical 2024 season which resulted in both a Pac-12 regular-season title and Pac-12 Tournament Championship and an NCAA-record 32nd Women's College World Series appearance.
After starting the year with a 3-4 record, UCLA closed out the final five weeks of the regular season convincingly with a 15-1 mark which helped earn a No. 6 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. UCLA's impressive turnaround was signaled by a three-game sweep at the then-Pac-12 leader Stanford in mid-April. The Bruins' underclass pitching tandem of Taylor Tinsley and Kaitlyn Terry dominated the Cardinal lineup to climb to the top of the Pac-12 standings, where they would stay for the remainder of the year.
UCLA cruised through the Regional and Super Regional rounds undefeated to enter the WCWS on a then-NCAA-best 13-game winning streak. That winning streak was sparked by the largest comeback victory in program history when UCLA rallied from a 7-0 deficit to score 11 unanswered runs against rival Arizona at Easton Stadium on Senior Day on April 28. UCLA rode that momentum through the Pac-12 Tournament, defeating Arizona for a third time in another comeback victory in the semifinals and exacting revenge over Utah in the Pac-12 Tournament Championship game.
The Shelly Carlin UCLA Head Softball Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez was awarded the Pac-12 Coach of the Year for a second consecutive season and the NFCA West Regional Coaching Staff of the Year for the seventh time in her career. Inouye-Perez called the 2024 season "the greatest year of coaching (she's) experienced" in her 18 years as head coach and 12 as an assistant.
