Men's Tennis Begins Regional Championships Play Thursday

TEMPE, Ariz. – The UCLA men's tennis team continues the fall portion of its season Thursday at the Kiwanis Tennis Center, site of the ITA Division I Men's Southwest Regional Championships. Matches continue through Oct. 22.
Leo von Bismarck, who is part of the singles qualifying field, will compete first for the Bruins. He meets Jiayi Zhou of UC Riverside Thursday at 9 a.m. PT.
Joining von Bismarck in the desert are teammates Gianluca Ballotta, Alexander Hoogmartens, Spencer Johnson, Giacomo Revelli, Aadarsh Tripathi and Emon van Loben Sels.
Doubles play starts Friday. Teaming up for the first time are Revelli and von Bismarck, who take on Daniel Phillips and Martin Vergara Del Puerto of Arizona State in the opening round at 9 a.m. Earning first-round byes were the top-seeded tandem of Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels, who face off against David Adamson and Robert Freedman of UC San Diego Saturday (10 a.m.), and the third-seeded combination of Hoogmartens and Tripathi.
The two singles finalists from each region (26) will qualify for November's NCAA singles tournament. Meanwhile, the doubles champion from each region (13) will earn a spot in the NCAA doubles draw.
