UCLA, USC Battle for Big Ten Regular Season Title Sunday
October 21, 2024 | Women's Soccer
No. 10 UCLA and No. 9 USC will face off on Sunday, Oct. 27 for the Big Ten Women's Soccer regular season title. The game will take place at the main stadium of Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. and will be televised live on Big Ten Network at Noon. Admission is free.
Each team is seeking its first-ever Big Ten title in its first season as a member of the conference. UCLA has 14 regular season conference titles in its program history, including the Pac-12 title in 2023.
UCLA enters the contest with a 13-2-3 overall record and an 8-0-2 conference mark. The Bruins have a national-best 13 shutouts in 18 games and is riding a 10-game unbeaten streak.
USC is 13-1-2 overall and 9-0-1 in the Big Ten. The Trojans also have a 10-game unbeaten streak, along with a six-game winning streak.
UCLA and USC have played each other at Dignity Health Sports Park two other times, with UCLA winning both matches, 1-0 in 2016 and 3-2 in double overtime in 2018. UCLA is 28-7-3 all-time against USC.
A win over USC would give UCLA the title and the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. A USC win or tie would give the Trojans the title. USC currently stands in first place with 28 points. UCLA has 26. Iowa is third with 25 and could grab the No. 2 seed with a win over Minnesota coupled with a UCLA loss or tie.
The Big Ten Tournament begins on Thursday, Oct. 31 with the opening round involving seeds 7-10. Quarterfinal action starts on Saturday, Nov. 2 with the No. 4 and 5 seeds and No. 3 and No. 6 seeds playing. On Sunday, Nov. 3, the No. 1 and No. 2 teams begin quarterfinal play. For the semifinals and final, the tournament moves to CITYPARK in St. Louis. Semifinals will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7, and the final will occur on Sunday, Nov. 10.
