LOS ANGELES -- Top-ranked UCLA (13-1, 0-1 MPSF West) had its 38-game consecutive regular season win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 9-7 setback to No. 3 Stanford (12-1, 1-0 MPSF West) at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. The Bruins fell to 82-92 in the series history against the Cardinal.

Just five Bruins scored in the game, paced by two goals apiece from freshman Ryder Dodd and sophomore Wade Sherlock.

Super senior Garret Griggs got the start in the cage and went the distance, tallying five saves and two steals while giving up nine goals.

The Bruins got on the board first with a power play goal by Sherlock (7:16) off a feed from graduate student Makoto Kenney. But Stanford reeled off five unanswered goals to end the first quarter with a 5-1 lead.

UCLA won the second quarter, 3-1, to close the gap to 6-4 by halftime. Stanford led 8-5 heading into the final stanza after winning the third period, 2-1.

In the fourth, Frederico Jucá Carsalade caught fire and scored a goal from the front court off a pass from Sherlock (7:08) and then got a steal on the next possession for Stanford and set up Sherlock for a power play score on a counter with 6:44 to go in the game, pulling the Bruins to within one goal at 8-7. But the Cardinal got an insurance goal with 5:03 to go to push it back to a two-goal lead. The Bruins were denied on their last six shots to preserve the 9-7 final.
