Senior Omar Morales of the UCLA men's golf team has earned an invitation to the World Wide Technology Championship, a PGA TOUR event that will take place Nov. 7-10 at El Cardonal Golf Course at Diamante Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
 
This will mark Morales' third PGA TOUR event, as he has participated in the Mexico Open in each of the past two years (2023 and 2024). Morales also competed in the 2023 Latin America Amateur Championships in Panama, where he had finished as runner-up after leading for 71 holes.
 
"Obviously, it's big news for Omar to get invited to play in the PGA TOUR event in Cabo, for a lot of reasons," UCLA head coach Armen Kirakossian said. "Most of all, this is what these guys dream about, being able to play in PGA TOUR events. Omar has had a few opportunities, but to have another one in his senior year of college is very special. In addition, to be in his home country of Mexico is really cool. He's not only there to compete for himself, but also to represent his country and his university. This is what our guys work for."
 
Morales, currently ranked No. 5 in the latest PGA TOUR University rankings, most recently tied for sixth at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate on Oct. 28-29. Morales' strong finish at The Preserve Golf Club helped UCLA secure its first team tournament title since March of 2021. In the Bruins' four events this fall, he recorded top 10 finishes at each tournament. He finished tied for fifth place at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate earlier this month, shooting 7-under 209 over the three-day tournament.
 
This will mark the second consecutive year in which the PGA TOUR has returned to El Cardonal Golf Course. Celebrating its 18th anniversary, this marks the oldest and most prestigious PGA TOUR event in Mexico.
 
In addition to playing in the Mexico Open, Morales has competed in the last two U.S. Open golf championships, in North Carolina in 2024 and in Los Angeles in 2023. This summer, he missed the cut at +7 (73-74), competing at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst Village, N.C. He had won his U.S. Open Qualifying Round at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif.
 
"Omar has now played in two Mexico Opens and he's been close to making the cut," Kirakossian said. "He has also played in two major championships and was close to making the cut in those. On a personal note for Omar, I know that he wants to go there and his goal is not to just have a great experience, but he wants to go there and perform well and compete for the win. I think that he will do that. He's been playing good golf. He has the experience of those other tournaments, of those other PGA TOUR events before. Now it is time to use that, to capitalize, and to have great week. We will be cheering him on."
