Men's Tennis Quartet Set for NCAA Individuals

Men's Tennis

Play starts at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center Tuesday.

WACO, Texas – Four members of the UCLA men's tennis team are set to begin play at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center Tuesday, when the NCAA Championships kick off as part of a two-year pilot program.

Individual competitions (singles and doubles) will run through Sunday. Team championships will continue to be held in the spring, concluding dual-match play.

Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels are part of the singles field. Alexander Hoogmartens and Aadarsh Tripathi will team up in doubles play. Hoogmartens (singles in 2022) is the only one out of the quartet who has competed at NCAA individuals.

Johnson was crowned the ITA Southwest Regional Championships singles titleholder, earning his NCAA spot when he became a finalist. By winning the doubles crown at the same event, the pair of Hoogmartens and Tripathi received its spot. A victory in a ITA West Sectional Championships quarterfinal playoff punched van Loben Sels' ticket.
