Men's Tennis Stopped in NCAA Singles, Doubles Quarters

WACO, Texas โ The UCLA men's tennis team had the fall portion of its 2024-25 season ended Friday, as Spencer Johnson and the doubles team of Alexander Hoogmartens and Aadarsh Tripathi were defeated at Hurd Tennis Center.
Johnson's run came to an end against No. 9-16 seed Timo Legout of Texas, who registered a 6-3, 6-2 win. The 55th-ranked Johnson earned All-America status when he reached the tournament's third round. He downed fellow nationally-ranked counterparts No. 33 Braden Shick of NC State and No. 42 Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois in the second and third rounds, respectively. The win against Shick was a three-set decision that needed a tiebreaker in the final frame.
Hoogmartens and Tripathi also earned All-America acclaim for their quarterfinal-round run, which was ended due to injury Friday. No. 17 Benjamin Kittay and Gavin Young of Michigan advanced by way of walkover. Hoogmartens and Tripathi previously knocked off No. 26 Devin Badenhorst and Zsombor Velcz of Baylor in their opener, then bested Auburn's Billy Blaydes and Will Nolan in a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(6) thriller.
