No. 1 Bruins Claim First Big Ten Conference Win over Washington

SEATTLE - The No. 1 UCLA Women's Basketball team (9-0, 1-0 Big Ten) won their first conference game since joining the Big Ten at Washington on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 73-62 to extend the Bruins' win streak to nine games.
 
The junior duo of Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice led the Bruins' offense, combining for 41 points in the Bruins' win over the Huskies (7-3, 0-1 Big Ten). Betts was the highest scorer of the game with 23 points and Rice finished with a season-high 18 points.
 
The Bruins were dominant in the paint, outscoring the Huskies 28-10, thanks in part to Betts' scoring prowess.
 
UCLA started off strong, finishing the quarter with a score of 20-16. Seven players scored in the period, including three Bruins off of the bench. Rice led the Bruins in the first quarter, scoring five points and picking up two assists. Betts finished the quarter with four points and two rebounds.
 

 
The Bruins' had a slow start in the second quarter, only scoring 15 points. Rice and Betts each put up four points apiece and Londynn Jones hit her first three-pointer of the game. UCLA found success on the defensive end, holding Washington to only nine points in the frame. Betts finished the quarter with two blocked shots and a steal. 
 
Betts was dominant in the third quarter, finishing with ten points in ten minutes. Rice picked up six points, a rebound, and two assists. Jones and Gabriela Jaquez each hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to 57-49 by the end of the third. Betts and Rice continued to show their effectiveness as a duo, with Rice scoring on a fast break layup after a deflection by Betts.
 

 
The Bruins struggled to score in the fourth quarter but maintained their lead to finish the game. Jaquez finished the quarter with four points, two rebounds, and two assists. She scored her final points of the game thanks to a full-court assist by Jones in the final minute of the game.
 

 
UP NEXT - vs. Long Beach State (Dec. 14)
The Bruins will face off against Long Beach State at Walter Pyramid on Dec. 14th, 2024. The game will tip at 2pm PST on Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
