TEMPE, Ariz. โ The No. 8 UCLA Bruins (23-5, 12-5 Pac-12) conquered Arizona State (11-18, 3-14 Pac-12) on Thursday evening at Desert Financial Arena. With the result, UCLA remains tied for second place in the Pac-12 regular season standings. The top four teams earn a bye to start the Pac-12 Championships in Las Vegas, Nev., next week.

In UCLA's second-to-last regular season game, sophomore Lauren Betts led the field with 20 points and 11 rebounds, earning her ninth double-double of the season. Kiki Rice followed Betts with 14 points and seven rebounds under her belt.ย The sophomore guard also led the field with seven assists.

Sun Devils' sophomores Jalyn Brown and Trayanna Crisp proved UCLA's biggest threat with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The first period remained close with four lead changes. Opening the match, Arizona State found its points by capitalizing on transitional points. The Sun Devils' Brown posed the greatest threat, tallying five points. Senior Angela Dugalić matched this with five points of her own. Dugalić closed out the first quarter with a deep three, giving the Bruins their biggest lead since the start of the match, 17-13.

The game opened up for the Bruins with the start of the second quarter. UCLA's defensive effort caused a six-minute dry spell for the Sun Devils. A cheeky behind-the-back assist by Dugalić to guard Kiki Rice highlighted the Bruins 10-point run.

The Bruins proved dominant in the paint with seven offensive rebounds and 26 points in the paint to close out the first half. Dominating inside the paint was sophomore Lauren Betts who found 5 points in the second quarter, tallying 11 by halftime. The Bruins closed out the first half 33-21.

Scoring slowed in the third quarter with the Bruins only scoring six points. Arizona State's Brown was the first player to reach 10 points for her squad. Despite Brown's efforts, the Bruins found a burst to finish the third quarter on a seven-point run, with Rice contributing five.

Londynn Jones opened UCLA's fourth quarter scoring with a jumper from behind the arc.ย Fellow teammate Christeen Iwuala followed Jones with a four-point run of her own. Reclaiming dominance over the game, UCLA succeeded Iwuala's run with another run that tallied seven points.

To wrap up the regular season, the Bruins travel to Tucson, Ariz., for a matchup against Arizona on Sunday, Mar. 2. The Bruins and Wildcats tip at 5 p.m. PT.
