No. 18 Women's Tennis Tops Arizona to Complete Perfect Homestand

LOS ANGELES – The No. 18 UCLA women's tennis team completed its seven-match homestand with an unblemished record after Saturday afternoon's 6-1 win against Arizona.
Bianca Fernandez, Kimmi Hance, Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and clincher Ahmani Guichard of the Bruins (9-3, 4-0 Pac-12) were each triumphant twice. Tian Fangran added the fifth singles victory. Brandelyn Fulgenzi prevailed for the Wildcats (11-9, 0-4). Her singles win was the first in conference play versus UCLA this season.
In what began as a tight contest for the doubles point, the Bruins ended the session strong. On Court 2, Hance and Lutkemeyer won their fifth match in as many tries together, taking the final four games against Martyna Ostrzygalo and Kayla Wilkins for a 6-2 victory. Then, on Court 3, the first-time combination of Fernandez and Guichard also finished on a four-game win streak to beat Midori Castillo-Meza and Belen Nevenhoven in a clinching 6-3 result.
UCLA fought to take five singles first sets. Lutkemeyer settled in on Court 5, storming in the second set to a 6-3, 6-0 win versus Castillo-Meza. Lutkemeyer has won five of her past six singles contests. No. 62 Tian, meanwhile, ran her personal winning streak to seven on Court 1. The two-time defending Pac-12 Player of the Week bested No. 123 Carter 6-3, 6-2.
For the first time in her career, Guichard clinched a win for the Bruins. The freshman outlasted Teja Tirunelveli 6-4, 6-4 on the sixth court, running her season win total to 13 (tied for the team high with Lutkemeyer). No. 65 Fernandez was next off, beating Ostrzygalo 6-3, 6-3 on Court 3. Fernandez has now won her past six finished matches.
Arizona got on the board when Fulgenzi got past Wagle in a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 decision on Court 4. UCLA completed the day in the win column, though, as No. 91 Hance held off Wilkins for a 7-5, 7-5 result.
The Bruins return to the courts Tuesday, March 26, when they visit the University of San Francisco for a match not previously on the schedule. First serve in that one is scheduled for 11 a.m. PT. UCLA then continues Pac-12 play the ensuing weekend with trips to Stanford and California.
