Rowan Named National Setter of the Week

UCLA's Andrew Rowan was named on Monday as offtheblockblog.com's National Setter of the Week for his play last week in a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) victories against rival USC.
The Bruins posted a .425 combined hitting percentage for the two matches against the Trojans including a .492 mark in the sweep at USC which was the second-best attack percentage of the season. It was also the highest percentage by the Bruins in an MPSF match this year and included an .824 attack clip in the second set which featured 14 kills, no errors on 17 swings. Rowan handed out 26 set assists in the victory with five Bruins totaling at least seven kills in the contest.
The Bruins followed up on that performance with a .382 effort in a four set win in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. Rowan totaled 48 set assists in the win and the Bruin team hit at least .480 in three of the four sets. UCLA has now hit at least .400 for a match a total of seven times this season and enters the week ranked second in the nation in hitting percentage at .367 this season.
The Bruins (14-4, 5-1) take a break from MPSF action this week for the annual Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge. UCLA returns to the court on Friday to battle No. 9 Penn State at USC's Galen Center. UCLA will then host No. 8 Ohio State on Sunday at 5 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom looking to avenge a five-set loss to the Buckeyes earlier this season on a neutral court.
