No. 15 Women's Tennis Beats Oregon in Home Finale

LOS ANGELES – The 15th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team prevailed in its regular-season home finale Saturday, defeating Oregon 5-0 at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Pac-12 match also represented Senior Day for Bruins Vanessa Ong and Sasha Vagramov.
Each of top four singles courts went the way of UCLA (16-4, 8-1 Pac-12), which won for the 14th time in 15 contests. Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer clinched the victory, completing a two-win day. The Ducks (10-12, 1-9) pushed for the doubles point, but were stopped short by Tian Fangran and Elise Wagle. Tian and Wagle each also triumphed twice.
The doubles combination of Lutkemeyer and Kimmi Hance did not drop a single game against Nina Geissler and Karin Young on Court 2 en route to the 65th-ranked Bruins' fifth straight victory and 10th in 11 tries. Oregon answered on Court 3, where Uxia Martinez Moral and Olivia Symons bested Fernandez and Ahmani Guichard 6-1.
The top-court matchup was knotted at five games apiece when No. 36 Tian and Wagle took charge. They broke the serve of Jo-Yee Chan and Sophie Luescher and never looked back.
No. 68 Fernandez bounced back emphatically from her doubles loss, beating Geissler 6-2, 6-2 on Court 2 to get things started in singles play. Wagle, who was the last player standing in Thursday's thrilling win at No. 7 Pepperdine, added a 6-3, 6-3 result over Chan on Court 3 to her list of accomplishments for the week. Wagle went a combined 4-0 across the two matches.
Lutkemeyer provided the deciding point on Court 4, taking down Martinez Moral in a tale of two sets. The 7-6(6), 6-1 decision represented Lutkemeyer's third clincher of the campaign and team-high 17th singles victory. Then, in a near-simultaneous finish, No. 37 Tian finished off a 6-3, 6-1 display versus Luescher up top.
UCLA completes its regular season with a rivalry match, as it travels across town to face No. 10 USC Friday, April 19. First serve from David X. Marks Tennis Stadium is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PT.
