LOS ANGELES โ Arizona State scored in each of its first four offensive innings and never looked back in an 8-2 win over UCLA on Saturday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
The result clinched the series for the Sun Devils (19-21, 9-11 Pac-12).
The Bruins (13-23, 6-14) will look to salvage the series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT.
Senior right fielder JonJon Vaughns and junior shortstop Cody Schrier led the Bruins offensively with an RBI apiece.
Vaughns got the Bruins on the board in the third inning with an RBI double off the wall in left field. Schrier later added an opposite-field solo homer to close the game's scoring in the bottom of the eighth.
Sophomore righty Michael Barnett was tagged with the loss, but got better as his seven-inning outing went along.
Barnett put up a zero in each of his final three frames, and only one allowed one hit โ on a check-swing infield single no less โ over that span. He ended his afternoon with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
All nine starters had a hit for ASU, including a 3-5, two-RBI day from center fielder Kien Vu. Jacob Tobias added a two-run homer in the eighth.
