Nanda Falls in NCAA Singles Opener

STILLWATER, Okla. โ Redshirt senior Govind Nanda had his UCLA men's tennis career ended Monday at the Greenwood Tennis Center, where he suffered a loss to Michael Zheng of Columbia in the NCAA Championships singles first round.
Zheng, ranked 23rd by the ITA, picked up the first set's only break of serve for 5-3 before closing it out with a hold. The 32nd-ranked Nanda was broken out of the gate in the second and again the match's final game for a 6-3, 6-3 result. Zheng next faces Matisse Bobichon of VCU in Tuesday's second round.
Nanda exceeded 100 total wins for his career in the Bruins' NCAA Championships first-round match against LSU (May 3). He went 53-25 in singles play while compiling a 48-26 doubles mark. A three-time Pac-12 All-Conference honoree, Nanda made his initial first team in 2024. His most recent NCAA individuals appearance was his second, as he also made the cut for singles as a freshman in 2019. Nanda was tabbed the ITA Southwest Region's Player to Watch in 2020. Away from the courts, he is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and two-time member of the Pac-12's Spring Academic Honor Roll.
