Micah, Fleming to Compete at 2024 Olympics
July 05, 2024 | Women's Soccer, Olympics
Former UCLA teammates Jessie Fleming and Teagan Micah will compete for Canada and Australia, respectively, at the 2024 Olympics. This will be Fleming's third Olympic Games and Micah's second.
ย
Fleming, Canada's team captain, is already a two-time Olympic medalist. She won her first medal in 2016 when Canada won bronze, and she led Canada to gold in 2020, scoring the game-tying goal and converting a penalty kick in the shootout in the gold medal match. Micah also had a successful 2020 Olympics, leading the Matildas to the medal round after a quarterfinal win over Great Britain. Micah faced 18 shots in that contest and made huge saves in the overtime period, including a penalty kick save in the 102nd minute.
ย
The two alumnae were four-year starters at UCLA from 2016-19 and led the Bruins to two College Cup appearances in 2017 and 2019. Fleming was a three-time All-American midfielder and a two-time finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. Micah still ranks in UCLA's Top 3 in career saves, shutouts and victories.
ย
Mallory Swanson, who was enrolled at UCLA in Winter 2017 before turning pro, will play for Team USA in her second Olympics. She played in the 2016 Olympics and became the youngest U.S. player (18 years-old) to score a goal in the Olympics. ย ย ย
ย
UCLA Women's Soccer has been represented at every Olympic Games since 2000. Bruins have won a total of eight medals, with Lauren Cheney winning a pair of golds medals in 2008 and 2012, Fleming winning gold in 2020 and bronze in 2016, Sydney Leroux winning gold in 2012, Chelsea Stewart winning bronze in 2012, and Sam Mewis and Abby Dahlkemper winning bronze in 2020.

The Olympic soccer tournament begins on Thursday, July 25. Canada opens the tournament with an 8am PT match against New Zealand, Australia plays Germany at 10am PT, and the U.S. plays Zambia at 12pm PT.
