Marin-Valencia Named Student-Athlete of the Week

LOS ANGELES โ Junior Bridgette Marin-Valencia of UCLA Women's Soccer has been selected the Student-Athlete of the Week, for competitions held between Aug. 13-19.

The Bruin forward had a hand in half of UCLA's goals this week, totaling two goals and one assist as the women's soccer team went 2-0 to start the year. In game one at Long Beach State, Marin-Valencia contributed to the team's first goal, as her deflected shot was put in by her teammate Emma Egizii. Marin-Valencia scored her own goal just a minute and a half later in a similar fashion, putting in Bella Winn's shot in front of the goal. In game two against UC Riverside, Marin-Valencia scored the game-winning goal, winning a deflected cross and making a nifty spin move before firing a right-footed shot past the goalkeeper.

With her two goals this weekend, Marin-Valencia has already matched her single-season high for goals. She leads the team in scoring with five points.
