ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior Lauren Betts has been named the Big Ten Women's Basketball Player of the Week after a dominant road stint on the East Coast. She averaged 27.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game in UCLA's 3-0 week across the country.
The center started the week with a near-triple-double, recording 24 points, nine rebounds and a program-record setting nine blocks in the win over No. 25 Baylor at the Coretta Scott King Classic. Betts then followed her career night with a 25-point, 13-rebound outing at Rutgers (W, 84-66) to claim her 11th double-double of the season. The star post finished the road swing with a career-high 33 points on 14-of-15 shooting to help take down No. 8 Maryland (W, 82-67) Sunday in UCLA's fifth ranked win of the year. Betts also had seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks in the top-10 victory over the Terps.
Betts has now set the record for most blocks by a Bruin in a single-game, two-, three- and four-game spans. She has totaled 25 blocks over the past four contests (7 vs. Penn State, 9 vs. No. 25 Baylor, 5 at Rutgers, 4 at No. 8 Maryland).
Betts last earned the conference weekly honor on Nov. 18 after putting up back-to-back double-doubles against Pepperdine and Arkansas.
