IRVINE, Calif. – No. 3 UCLA (10-3, 1-0 MPSF) couldn't get its offense going for the second straight game and saw its 21-game winning streak over No. 5 Hawai'i (10-3) get snapped, 8-5, in the third-place game of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex. With the loss, the Bruins fell to 58-4 all-time in the series.
Only five Bruins scored against the Rainbow Wahine and each of them scored one goal.
Sophomore Lauren Steele got the start in the cage and went the distance, registering 12 saves, scoring one goal, and tallying one steal while surrendering eight goals.
The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 start at the end of the first period. But Hawai'i won the second period, 3-1, to tie it up at halftime, 3-3. The Rainbow Wahine also won the third period, 2-0, to extend their lead to 5-3 heading into the final stanza. UH won the fourth quarter, 3-2, to proved the 8-5 final.

The Bruins finally return home to host No. 7 Fresno State (7-5) in the home opener on Saturday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. PT at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. The Bruins will also host their annual Alumnae game following the game with the Bulldogs and will look to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2005 NCAA Championship team.
