LOS ANGELES – No. 4 UCLA (14-3, 3-0 MPSF) won a defensive battle with No. 12 Princeton (10-3, 4-1 CWPA) on Thursday afternoon in a nonconference game at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. With the win over the Tigers, the Bruins improved to 9-0 in the series history.

A total of eight Bruins scored against Princeton, paced by two goals from junior Anna Pearson. Pearson, who was the only Bruin to score multiple goals in the contest, also drew a game-high five exclusions.

Steele got the start in the cage and went the distance, tallying five saves to go with four steals and one assist while allowing seven goals.

The Bruins jumped out to a 3-1 lead and led 3-2 at the end of the first period. Both teams settled for a 2-2 draw in the second as UCLA took a 5-4 lead into the break. Princeton scored the first two goals of the third period to claim its first and only lead of the game at 6-5 at the 6:19 mark of the third, but UCLA finished the period on a 3-0 scoring run to take an 8-6 lead into the final stanza. The two teams again settled for a draw in the fourth period, 1-1, to provide the 9-7 final.
