Fakih Voted Big Ten Freshman of the Week Once Again

Pasadena, Calif. native won both of her singles matches, improving to 7-0 in dual-match play.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Kate Fakih of the UCLA women's tennis team earned her third Big Ten Freshman of the Week award Wednesday, the conference announced. Fakih logged a 2-0 singles record and prevailed in her only finished doubles match as the Bruins defeated Pepperdine (Feb. 26) before falling at San Diego State (March 1).

Facing Pepperdine's Sebastianna Scilipoti on Court 4, Fakih cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory that gave UCLA a 3-0 lead. The Bruin went on beat San Diego State's Gloria Alogo 6-4, 6-3 on Court 3. Fakih is now 7-0 in dual-match singles play.

Fakih and doubles partner Olivia Center improved to 13-3 (4-0 in dual-match play) against nationally-ranked pairs, knocking off No. 39 Anastasiia Grechkina/Alexia Harmon of Pepperdine 6-3, 6-2 on Court 2. The win clinched the doubles point for UCLA.

Fakih was previously named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Feb. 12 and again on Jan. 29. She has also twice won Big Ten Player of the Week, on Oct. 23, 2024 and Sept. 25, 2024. Bruin Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer was tabbed Big Ten Player of the Week on Nov. 13, 2024.
