Quan Earns Third Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Rudy Quan of the UCLA men's tennis team was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the third time on Wednesday, the conference announced. No other player in the league has won more than once.

Quan, who was also honored on Feb. 26 and Jan. 22, picked up a pair of ranked singles wins as the Bruins swept Michigan State (April 13 – 4-1) and Michigan (April 11 – 5-0) by a combined 9-1 margin.

He turned in the highest-ranked win of his young career, beating No. 9 Ozan Baris of Michigan State 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1 to pull his team level at 1-1. Quan also took down No. 80 Will Cooksey of Michigan in a 6-3, 6-3 decision.

UCLA has now won five Big Ten weekly awards this season. On top of Quan's three, Bigun was voted Freshman of the Week on March 12 and Spencer Johnson was tabbed Player of the Week during the fall.
