STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The UCLA men's tennis team secured a 4-0 victory against Penn State in Big Ten Conference play Sunday at Sarni Tennis Center. With just indoor courts at the facility, the matches on Courts 5 and 6 were not played.

Alexander Hoogmartens logged a two-win day for the Bruins (9-8, 7-2 in Big Ten play). Rudy Quan and clincher Kaylan Bigun were also triumphant. The Nittany Lions dropped to 11-11 (0-9) on the year.

The UCLA pair of Gianluca Ballotta and Emon van Loben Sels notched its seventh victory in eight contests to get things started, beating Reiya Hattori/Shrikeshav Murugesan 6-4, on Court 3. Then, with the Court 2 match in a tiebreaker, the top-court Bruins delivered. For the third time this season, Hoogmartens and Giacomo Revelli locked up the initial point, this time doing so with a 7-5 result over Sam Bossem/Loren Byers.

The Bruins picked up all four singles first sets and never looked back, beginning with Hoogmartens. The senior's team-high 11th dual-match singles win came by way of a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Hattori on Court 4.

Next to finish was No. 34 Quan on Court 1. After having five of his previous six matches abandoned, the freshman got on the board this time with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Charl Morgan.

Soon after Quan's win, another freshman contributed the clincher. Bigun tallied the fourth point for the first time in his career, besting Marcus Schoeman 6-4, 6-2 on Court 3.

UCLA returns home next, welcoming No. 23 Michigan to Los Angeles Tennis Center on Friday, April 11. First serve in that one is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT. Michigan State then stops in Sunday, April 13 at 12 p.m. PT.
