LOS ANGELES -- No. 1 UCLA (18-0, 2-0 MPSF West) scored nine goals in the opening period. cruising to its 21st-straight victory on Saturday evening, 23-10, at the expense of 13th-ranked Princeton at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center. The win streak is tied for the fifth-longest streak in UCLA's history (1971-72). With the win, the Bruins improved to 22-0 against the Princeton Tigers.
UCLA had 12 different players score (13th time in 18 games this season the Bruins had 10 or more people find the back of the net), paced by sophomore Ryder Dodd's season-high eight points five goals and three assists. Sophomore Bode Brinkema scored a career-high-tying four goals (for the third time) to go with a pair of assists for eight total points. Juniors Frederico Jucá Carsalade and Ben Liechty, and seniors Gray Carson and Noah Rowe rounded out the half dozen Bruins to score multiple goals in the game, each with two scores.
Redshirt sophomore Nate Tauscher got the starting nod and played the first 27:20 (subbed out with 4:40 to go in the fourth), tallying six saves and two assists while allowing eight scores. Redshirt freshman Nick Tovani played 2:40 in the fourth quarter, allowing the other two goals. Redshirt freshman Joey Kent played the final two minutes of the game, making one save and one steal.
The Bruins got off to a strong offensive start, winning the first period, 9-2. UCLA won the second period, 5-2, to build a 10-goal lead at the break, 14-4. A closer quarter followed with the Bruins winning the third period, 5-4, to take a 19-8 lead into the final stanza. UCLA doubled up the Tigers in the fourth, 4-2, to provide the 23-10 final.
