Shank, Winn, Egizii Earn Weekly Honors
October 21, 2025 | Women's Soccer
Three UCLA women's soccer players earned weekly honors after a successful weekend. Freshman defender/midfielder Grace Shank was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, redshirt freshman forward Bella Winn earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition, and redshirt senior midfielder Emma Egizii was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Shank, who hails from McLean, Va., started as a defender in the Bruins' 3-0 shutout wins over No. 5 Iowa and Nebraska. The Bruin defense allowed just one shot in the 79th minute in the win over Iowa, and Shank scored her first collegiate goal in the 74th minute, firing a left-footed shot into the back of the net. Shank and the Bruins kept up the lock-down defense against Nebraska, holding the Huskers to five shots, just two on goal. UCLA leads the nation with a 0.313 goals against average and has a Big Ten-best 11 shutouts. The Bruins have not allowed more than one goal in a game all season.ย
Winn contributed to all three goals in UCLA's 3-0 win over Nebraska, scoring the first two goals and assisting on the third. Her two goals were scored within two and a half minutes of each other and put UCLA ahead 2-0 in the 29th minute. Winn's two-goal game was the first multiple-goal game by a Bruin since Egizii scored two goals in the 2024 season opener, and Winn's five points were the most by a Bruin in a game since Reilyn Turner scored six in 2023. Winn, who hails from Ridgewood, N.J., leads UCLA in scoring with six goals and 13 points. Her four game-winning goals rank her tied for second in the Big Ten and 15th in the nation.ย
Egizii contributed to four of UCLA's six goals this weekend, scoring one goal and adding three assists, including assists on both game-winners. In the 3-0 win over No. 5 Iowa, she assisted on Kara Croone's game-winner just 1:47 into the game and then scored her third goal of the season in the 60th minute to put UCLA ahead, 2-0. Against Nebraska, she tallied two assists, one on the game-winner at 25:38, and a second one less than three minutes later after her shot was blocked and the rebound put in by Winn. Egizii leads the team in assists with five and ranks second in scoring with 11 points and in goals scored with three.
These are the first career Big Ten awards for Shank and Winn and the first Team of the Week honor for Egizii.
