November 15, 2025 | Football
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Luke Duncan made his first career start under center in front of 104,168 fans, completing 16-of-23 passes (70.0 percent) for 154 yards and a touchdown.
"(Duncan) had his little package of plays we had for him," said UCLA interim head coach Tim Skipper. "We tried to get him going, get a little ease into the game. This is his first career start right here in the Horseshoe. As the game went, he got more and more comfortable. That's what I was proud to see of him. That's a tough deal and just proud of that kid for fighting. He never blinked an eye and just kept going moving forward. He'll build off of that."
The Bruins (3-7, 3-4 Big Ten) totaled 222 yards of offense (154 passing, 68 rushing) against Ohio State's 440. Four of the Buckeyes' (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten) five touchdowns came via the rushing game. Bo Jackson recorded a game-high 112 rushing yards on 15 carries. James Peoples recorded two rushing TDs and true freshman Isaiah West added another.
Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin totaled 184 yards on 23-of-31 pass attempts with a touchdown.
Duncan was responsible for UCLA's longest pass of the season with a 51-yard completion to wide receiver Rico Flores Jr. on a crossing route in the third quarter. Two plays later, Duncan recorded his first career touchdown on an 18-yard strike to Kwazi Gilmer to score the Bruins' first points of the game. The score marked Gilmer's third touchdown grab of the year.
Duncan's touchdown was quickly answered on a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Lorenzo Styles Jr., ballooning Ohio State's lead to 41-7. Junior kicker Mateen Bhaghani add three UCLA points on a 32-yard field goal for his 15th successful attempt of the season.
Peoples scored on an 8-yard rushing touchdown at the 1:54 mark of the fourth quarter to bring the score to its final tally at 48-10.
Defensively, safety Key Lawrence made seven tackles (5-2-7), including one behind the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Jalen Woods delivered the game's only sack to force fourth down on Ohio State's opening possession of the second half. The Bruins made a stop on fourth down on the Buckeyes' next drive.
Ohio State out-gained UCLA 294-50 in the first half. The Bruins were unable to cross midfield, achieving only two first downs compared to the Buckeyes' 16. Ohio State scored on all five of its possessions in the half in the form of three touchdowns and two field goals).
The Buckeyes marched downfield on its first possession of the game with an eight-play, 71-yard drive capped by a 1-yard TD rush by Jackson to score the game's first points. The key play on the drive was an 18-yard completion to wideout Jeremiah Smith who hauled in a one-handed grab along the left sideline.
Jackson took eight carries for 75 yards in the first half while his backfield mate West rushed three times for 43 yards.
A field goal by Buckeye kicker Jayden Fielding in the first quarter's final seconds pushed their lead to 10-0.
Ohio State scored 17 points in the final 4:41 of the first half. Sayin faced a third-and-20 at the UCLA 26 yard line when he found Smith for a 15-yard completion. Head coach Ryan Day left his offense on the field, and on fourth-and-5, Sayin wheeled right out of the pocket and threw to Bryson Rodgers for an 11-yard touchdown pass.
Another UCLA three-and-out gave Ohio State the ball at its own 19 yard line with a 17-0 lead and 3:12 remaining.
Buckeye running back James Peoples was responsible for his team's next scoring play. Peoples raced to the right sideline and hurdled defensive back Cole Martin, scampering into the endzone untouched for a 19-yard scoring rush to push Ohio State's lead to 23-0.
UCLA went three-and-out for the third time of the half on its next possession. Junior Will Karoll's punt attempt was blocked by defensive lineman Caden Curry and recovered at UCLA's 14 yard line. Fielding capitalized on the mishap with another field goal, giving the Buckeyes a 27-0 lead entering halftime.
True freshman Madden Iamaleava made his collegiate debut as a play-caller on UCLA's final drive of the game. Redshirt freshman Troy Leigber logged his first carries since the 2023 season on the same possession. He finished with a team-high 21 rushing yards on three totes.
