No. 3 Bruins Escape Hawkeyes in Iowa, 67-65

IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 3-ranked UCLA Women's Basketball improved to 26-1 (14-1 B1G), claiming a win after a late-game comeback over Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena Sunday. The Bruins overcame a 12-point second-half deficit in the road victory.
Junior Lauren Betts had a game-high 22 points in the win over the Hawkeyes (18-9, 8-8 B1G). The center grabbed 12 rebounds to earn her 14th double-double of the season.
Junior Kiki Rice also finished in double figures with 12 points in the win. Gabriela Jaquez finished the game with nine points alongside nine rebounds.
The Bruins were scrappy in the first quarter and came away up 14-12 on the Hawkeyes. Betts scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting in the frame and grabbed two rebounds. Rice was effecting the game on both ends, grabbing a steal and fighting through traffic for a tough layup. Jaquez and freshmen Elina Aarnisalo and Kendall Dudley also scored in the quarter.
Iowa found offensive success in the second quarter and UCLA was outscored 24-15. Betts recorded another six points in four minutes before sitting due to foul trouble. Londynn Jones finished the quarter with five points, hitting a three-pointer and a jumper. Angela Dugalić and Jaquez also hit shots in the second quarter, and Jaquez grabbed three rebounds. UCLA went into halftime down 29-36.
The Bruins fought through the third quarter and outscored the Hawkeyes 21-14. Betts was once again the leading scorer of the quarter, finishing with seven points in the frame. She also grabbed four rebounds. Jaquez added five and four rebounds on perfect shooting splits. Rice went 4-4 from the free throw line, and Dugalić hit a deep three-pointer to cut into the deficit. The Bruins entered the final quarter tied with the Hawkeyes 50-50.
UCLA outscored Iowa 17-15 in the final quarter to pick up its 14th conference win as first-year members of the Big Ten. Rice led the team in scoring with six points in the quarter before fouling out. Dugalić finished the quarter with four points and three rebounds while Betts scored three points and grabbed six boards to earn her double-double. The game went down to the wire and was tied with six seconds left, but Aarnisalo hit two clutch free throws to put UCLA ahead of Iowa. The back-and-forth affairs was tied ten times and saw four lead changes before the Bruins came away victorious.

The Bruins will travel to Madison, Wisconsin to face off against Wisconsin on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. PST and will be broadcast on Peacock.
