
No. 2 Men's Volleyball Beats No. 16 UCSB, 3-1

Santa Barbara, Calif. – The No. 2 UCLA men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over No. 16 UC Santa Barbara inside the Thunderdome on Friday night to complete the regular season sweep of the Gauchos. Set scores were 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, and 25-18.
Cooper Robinson led the team with 13 kills on 23 swings on Friday, while Cameron Thorne tallied 11 kills on 12 swings to hit .917 on the night. Zach Rama and David Decker both finished in double digit kills as well with 11 and 10 kills respectively.
As a squad, the Bruins (10-3) hit .538 on Friday night and limited UCSB (8-8) to a .238 hitting percentage.
The two sides traded points throughout the opening portion of the first set before UCLA went on a mini 3-0 run to take a 12-9 lead.
UCLA then extended their lead to 18-12 courtesy of a block by McQuiggan and Rama. The Bruins then rattled off five of the next nine points to take a 23-16 lead when Thorne finished off a Rowan assist.
The Bruins then took the first set 25-17 with Robinson slamming home his fourth kill of the set to give UCLA a 1-0 set lead.
As for the second set the Gauchos took a 3-0 lead before Robinson got the Bruins on the board with his fifth kill of the night.
The Bruins and Gauchos traded points for the majority of the set with Rowan scoring a service ace to make it a 10-9 Gauchos lead.
With Trent Taliaferro at the service line the Bruins tied the match at 21-21 as Rama slammed home his sixth kill of the match. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the Gauchos took the second set 25-22 to tie the match at 1-1 heading to the third set.
In the third set, the Bruins opened up a 7-5 lead before UCSB went on a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 advantage.
UCLA then utilized a 3-0 run to take a 16-14 lead in the set, capped off by Robinson's ninth kill of the evening.
The Bruins continued to pile on the pressure in the third set, with Kahale Clini and Rowan each tallying a service ace in the set, while Robinson had two huge blocks up front to give UCLA the third set, 25-20, and a 2-1 lead.
As for the final set, UCLA controlled the pace from the first serve and took an 18-10 lead, as Kelly tallied three early kills to contribute to the Bruins' attack.
Robinson added his 13th kill of the night to put the Bruins up 24-17 in the final set before a few points later a UCSB service error gave the Bruins the 25-18 set four win, and a 3-1 match win.
