No. 2 Women’s Basketball Falls in Regular Season Finale to No. 4 USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The No. 2-ranked UCLA Women's Basketball team lost its final home game of the season to No. 4-ranked USC, 80-67, inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Saturday night.
 
Junior Kiki Rice was the Bruins' (27-2, 16-2 Big Ten) leading scorer of the game, finishing with 16 points against the Trojans (26-2, 16-1 Big Ten). Rice also added six assists and four rebounds.
 
Lauren Betts earned her 16th double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Londynn Jones also finished in double figures with 12 points.
 
The Bruins started slowly in the first quarter, allowing a 9-0 run from the Trojans before coming back to finish the quarter down three points, 23-20. Janiah Barker scored the team's first field goal after four minutes of play off of an assist from Rice. Rice then scored or assisted on every one of the team's points for the first four minutes of the game. Barker led the team in scoring with six points in the first quarter, while Timea Gardiner added five points and Rice finished with four assists, three points, and a block. Angela Dugalic hit a three-pointer on the fast break to finish the Bruins' 7-2 run at the end of the first frame.
 

 
USC outscored UCLA 23-12 in the second quarter. Gabriela Jaquez led the team in scoring in the frame with six points on 3-of-4 shooting alongside two rebounds and an assist. Betts, Barker and Aarnisalo each finished the quarter with two points and Betts added five rebounds to finish the first half with nine boards. UCLA went into halftime down 32-46.
 
The Bruins outscored the Trojans 19-16 in the third quarter to cut into the lead. Rice scored eight points in the frame alongside two rebounds and an assist. Jones scored on back-to-back possessions early in the period to finish with five points. Dugalic also hit a three to contribute to the Bruins' third quarter effort, as the Bruins closed the gap to just four points, 55-51, with 3:02 to go in the quarter. Unfortunately for UCLA, the Trojans outscored the Bruins 9-0 over the last three minutes to take a 64-51 lead into the final quarter.
 
 
UCLA was outscored 16-12 in the final quarter of play. Betts scored the first field goal of the quarter, while Jones led the team in scoring with seven points alongside two assists, a rebound, and a steal. Betts finished with five points, a rebound, and a block in the frame and Rice added five points.  
 
UP NEXT - Big Ten Tournament (March 5-9)
The Bruins will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the Big Ten Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The tournament will begin on Wednesday, March 5 and will end on Sunday, March 9.
