No. 1 UCLA Defeats Both No. 12 Texas and No. 11 LSU, 4-1

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif.ย -- No. 1 UCLA (17-1) earned a pair of 4-1 victoriesย on a cold and rainy Friday at Manhattan Beach Pier in the first day of the East Meets West Invitational. The Bruins opened with a win over No. 12 Texas (11-3) in the morning and then defeated LSU (12-3) in the afternoon. The Bruins won the first-ever meeting against Stein Metzger's Texas Longhorns andย improved to 20-2 all-time against LSU with their 12th straight win in the series.
In the first dual against Texas, the Bruins' court five duo of Harper Cooper and Jessie Smith clinched the victory with a 21-13, 21-10 win over Carys Patton and Kylie Wickley.
In the dual against LSU, UCLA's court five pair of Cooper and Sophie Moore defeated Kate Baker and Emily Meyer, 23-21, 21-19 to clinch the win.
UP NEXT: The Bruins return to the Manhattan Beach Pier tomorrow to conclude the annual East Meets West Invitational. UCLA will open day two with No. 8 Florida State (14-1) squad on Saturday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. PT.
