Kaniya Bragg Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Freshman infielder Kaniya Bragg on the UCLA softball team was named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the conference office March 3.
This marks the first weekly award of Bragg's career and the program's first as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
Bragg was tied for the team lead with a .474 batting average (9-for-19) and paced the No. 4 Bruins (18-4) with 10 runs scored and a .615 on-base percentage over UCLA's six games at the Judi Garman Classic last week. Bragg entered the week with just one run scored over UCLA's previous 16 games. The Bruins finished the week with a 4-2 record, beating Notre Dame, Utah, Cal State Fullerton and Weber State.
Bragg recorded the first two home runs of her career at the Judi Garman Classic. Her first blast was a solo homer versus Notre Dame on Thursday, Feb. 27. Bragg's second home run was a go-ahead, two-run shot in the 10th inning versus rival No. 12 Arizona on Sunday, March 1.
Bragg reached base safely in all six games and tallied at least one hit in five of those contests. In UCLA's 16-4 win over the Utes, Bragg recorded the first three-hit performance of her career, scored three runs and plated two RBIs. She scored three runs for the second time of the weekend versus Weber State after going 2-for-3 with a base-on-balls.
As a result of her strong performance, Bragg raised her batting average on the season by 36 points to .393 (24-for-61). Bragg leads UCLA with 15 total free passes (eight BB, seven HBP) and ranks third on the team with a .506 on-base percentage.
Bragg and UCLA return to Easton Stadium for the first time since week one to play two games versus LMU on Thursday, March 6 and Sacramento State on Friday, March 7. Tickets can be purchased at this LINK.
