STANFORD, Calif. -- No. 1 UCLA (11-1) earned a pair of victories on the opening day of the inaugural MPSF Midseason Rumble at Stanford's Beach Volleyball Stadium on Friday, picking up a 5-0 sweep of Oregon and then earning a 4-1 win at No. 5 Stanford under the lights in the evening. The Bruins improved to 8-0 all-time against the Ducks with their eighth-straight sweep in the series. UCLA improved to 23-3 against the Cardinal with its second-straight win in the series between the two teams.

In the first dual against Oregon, the Bruins went up 1-0 on court two as graduate student Peri Brennan and senior Natalie Myszkowski took down AJ Slojkowski and Landree Coats in straight sets, 21-13, 21-11.

The Bruins would earn their second point on court four as redshirt freshman Taylor Ford and graduate Tessa Van Winkle defeated the Ducks' Kamilah Checani and Isabel Patterson 21-16, 21-15.

UCLA's court five pair of freshman Harper Cooper and senior Sophie Moore clinched the dual win with a 21-11, 21-8 win over Natasha George and Liz Rossi.

Redshirt freshman Kaley Mathews and freshman Alexa Fernandez put the Bruins up 4-0 with a 21-14, 21-14 win over Alex Kriz and Gwen Fife on court three.

Freshman Sally Perez and junior Maggie Boyd completed the sweep, rallying to win in three sets, 21-15, 16-21, 15-12 over Oregon's Ella Tyus and Bella Gamache.

Senior Reagan Hope and freshman Adelina Okazaki defeated Kendall Clark and Presley McCaskill in exhibition action on court six, 21-16, 21-13.

In the dual against the Cardinal, Brennan and Myszkowski again put the Bruins on the board first with a straight-set win, 21-12, 21-16, on court two over Charlotta Bell and Taylor Wilson.

UCLA went up 2-0 on court four as Fernandez and Mathews defeated the Cardinal's Chloe Hoffman and Clara Stowell, 28-26, 21-17.

Boyd and Perez clinched the dual on court one with a 21-18, 21-13, win over Stanford's Brooke Rockwell and Ruby Sorra.

UCLA's court three pair of Ensley Alden and Kenzie Brower quickly made it 4-0 with a 21-18, 21-9, takedown of Kelly Belardi and Avery Jackson.

Cooper and Moore dropped a three-set thriller 18-21, 21-15, 12-15 to Daria Gusarova and Emmy Sharp on court five to provide the 4-1 final.

Hope and Jessie Smith (making her season debut) posted an exhibition win over Babi Gubbins and Ashley Vincent, 21-15, 21-14.

UP NEXT: The Bruins complete the MPSF Midseason Rumble tomorrow with a pair of tough duals. UCLA will face No. 16 Grand Canyon at 12:00 p.m. PT and conclude the tournament with No. 9 California at 4:00 p.m. PT.
