No. 2 UCLA Men's Volleyball Takes Down No. 7 BYU in Four Sets

LOS ANGELES – The No. 2 UCLA men's volleyball program beat No. 7 BYU in four sets on Saturday night inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial. Set scores were 25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17.
Cooper Robinson paced the Bruins with 17 kills, while Zach Rama and Sean Kelly both finished in double digits kills as well with 12 and 10 each.
Andrew Rowan dished out 47 assists, and surpassed 3,000 career set assists for his career at UCLA in the win. Defensively for UCLA, the Bruins tallied 23 block assists with Cameron Thorne leading the way with six, while Rama added five more.
The Bruins jumped out to a 10-5 lead to force a BYU timeout. Robinson led the way early with three kills on four swings while Thorne added two blocks assists on the defensive side.
UCLA extended its advantage to 17-10 courtesy of a block assist by McQuiggan and Sean Kelly.
The Bruins continued to apply the pressure and took the first set 25-17, all while hitting .560 as a squad. In the opening set, Robinson led the way with six kills, while Rama added five more.
After dropping the second set 22-25, UCLA bounced back in the third set, and took a 7-4 lead early on. Unfortunately for UCLA, the Cougars then went on a 3-0 scoring run to tie the set at 7-7 before Kelly provided a kill to put the Bruins up 8-7.
Later on a dump by Rowan and a block assist by Rowan and Thorne made it 10-8 UCLA, as the teams continued to trade points.
Another Rowan dump put the Bruins up 18-14 in the set. The Cougars fought back and made it a 22-20 UCLA advantage through two service aces.
With the Bruins up 22-20, Rowan set Thorne for his 35th assist of the night, and the 3,000 of his career. With the set assist, Rowan becomes the 10th Bruin to surpass 3,000 career assists.
UCLA then took the third set 25-21, courtesy of another Rowan dump over the net as UCLA opened up a 2 sets to 1 advantage heading to the fourth set.
As for the fourth set, the Bruins opened up a 15-8 advantage and utilized a 6-2 scoring run to force a BYU timeout. During that 6-2 run Rowan provided two service aces, Robinson and Thorne added a block assist, and Robinson added another kill.
The Bruins extended their lead to 20-13 courtesy of Robinson who recorded his 17th kill of the night on that swing.
A Rowan to Thorne connection put UCLA up 24-16 before UCLA ended the match and took the fourth set 25-17 when a BYU attack error fell wide.
