No. 13 UCLA Falls to Nebraska in Big Ten Tournament Championship, 5-0
May 25, 2025 | Baseball
OMAHA, Neb. – The No. 13-ranked UCLA baseball team fell to eighth-seeded Nebraska in Sunday afternoon's Big Ten Tournament championship game at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
UCLA (42-16, 22-8 Big Ten) managed just four hits, suffering just its second shutout of the season. Roman Martin led with two hits, while Mulivai Levu and AJ Salgado added one apiece. Martin was named to the All-Tournament team after going 5-for-15 (.333) with a pair of doubles and four runs scored over the four-game week.
Nebraska starter Ty Horn dominated, blanking the Bruins over eight innings, surrendering just three hits while striking out six.
The Cornhuskers raced to an early lead, rallying for three runs while chasing starting pitcher Landon Stump out of the contest after just 1.1 innings.
Nebraska added to its lead in the third when Devin Nunez hit a two-run shot.
This concluded the scoring in the contest as neither team was able to find any offensive momentum for the remainder of the game.
Wylan Moss dominated in relief, retiring all 10 batters he faced over 3.1 perfect innings. Cal Randall, August Souza, and Justin Lee followed with a scoreless inning each to close out the game.
UCLA squandered a golden opportunity to find a foothold in the game when it placed runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the sixth. However, back-to-back strikeouts brought an abrupt halt to the Bruins' rally.
UCLA awaits its NCAA Tournament destination, with the selection show airing Monday at 9 a.m. PT on ESPN2. The Bruins are poised to make their first regional appearance since 2022.
