Bruins' Comeback Falls Short at USC, 7-5

IRVINE, Calif.ย ย โย The No. 14-ranked UCLA baseball team's fierce comeback came up just short in its 7-5 defeat to USC on Saturday afternoon at Great Park.

UCLA (34-12, 17-6 Big Ten) went scoreless for seven straight innings until Roman Martin's grand slam in the eighth gave the Bruins a glimmer of hope in the closing stages. Dean West came up with an RBI single to bring UCLA within two runs in the ninth, but with the tying run at the plate, the Bruins were unable to capitalize.

The series with USC (31-15, 15-8 Big Ten) is now tied at a game apiece and sets up for an exciting rubber match tomorrow afternoon.
