LOS ANGELES - The No. 8 UCLA women's soccer team kicked off the 2025 season with a 3-0 exhibition victory over LMU at Wallis Annenberg Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Bruins received first-half goals from Paloma Daubert and Oruha Hayashi and a second-half score from Emma Egizii. Daphne Nakfoor and Layla Armas combined for the shutout.
Daubert, a sophomore defender, got the scoring started in the 22nd minute with a bender to the upper right corner after a feed from Bridgette Marin-Valencia.
UCLA's second goal was started by freshman Grace Shank, who sent a ball into Hayashi in the 37th minute. The junior transfer from Iowa Western chipped the LMU goalkeeper on the high bounce and watched it go into the back of the net to double UCLA's lead.
The Bruins scored one more time, just five minutes after halftime on a left-footed top-shelf rocket by Egizii. The redshirt senior was playing in her first game back after a season-ending injury in game four of last year. America Frias was credited with the assist.
"I thought it was a good start, given how young our group is," said UCLA head coach Margueritte Aozasa. "We saw a lot of moments of individual brilliance, we saw our style that we've been preaching over the last couple of days really come out. Most impressively, we saw three incredible goals. We also saw a lot of players get their first games, whether that be their first games ever or their first games coming back from injury, so that was really positive."
UCLA will officially open the season on Thursday, Aug. 14 at Georgia. The match will be televised on ESPNU at 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT.
