Crossley Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Women's Tennis

Award is Tokyo native's conference-leading third.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Mayu Crossley of UCLA women's tennis earned the third Big Ten Freshman of the Week award of her career Wednesday, the conference announced. No other current freshman has more than two.

Crossley finished strong to help the Bruins secure a come-from-behind 4-3 victory at Pepperdine (Feb. 20). Both teams were ranked in the ITA's top 15. The Tokyo native suffered a doubles loss and dropped her first set with Sonja Zhiyenbayeva on the second singles court before bouncing back to prevail 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. The win, Crossley's fourth in a row, pulled UCLA level at 3-3.

Currently ranked No. 49 individually by the ITA, Crossley has a 6-1 dual singles record. She earned a sweep of the Big Ten Player and Freshmen of the Week awards Feb. 4 and also collected the first-year honor Nov. 12, 2025.
