ROSEMONT, Ill. –Junior shortstop Roch Cholowsky of the No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team has been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week after powering the Bruins to a perfect 4-0 record, including their second straight Big Ten sweep.
The honor marks the first Big Ten weekly award of Cholowsky's career.
Cholowsky delivered the most complete offensive performance in the conference this week, hitting .615 (8-for-13) with two home runs, nine RBIs, five runs scored, and 14 total bases. He recorded a hit in all four games and posted a pair of three-hit performances to anchor UCLA's lineup. The sophomore reached base 12 times across the week, adding two walks and two hit-by-pitches to his eight hits.
The UCLA shortstop is slashing .368/.500/.868 with 10 home runs on the season, the joint most of any Division I shortstop.
His production helped fuel a dominant stretch for the Bruins, who improved to 17-2 overall and remained unbeaten in Big Ten play. At 6-0, UCLA has achieved its best start to a league campaign since 1977.
