LOS ANGELES – Incoming freshman Somto Okafor joins Team Spain at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s EuroBasket in Stockholm, Sweden, from Aug. 1-9.

The early August tournament will be Okafor’s fourth international competition with Spain. The 5-foot-9 guard captured gold at the U20 Women’s EuroBasket in 2025, averaging 10.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in seven appearances. Okafor shined at another 2025 tournament, the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup. She was named to the All-Star 5 and earned a bronze medal after averaging 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds across six games. Her first bronze medal and All-Star 5 honor came at the 2024 FIBA U16 Women’s EuroBasket in Hungary.

Okafor was named one of the upcoming tournament’s top players to watch by FIBA in a preview ahead of the international competition; FIBA put her on MVP watch because she captured a gold medal with Spain as the team’s youngest rostered player at last summer’s U20 EuroBasket. Okafor has impressed with her ability to score at the rim and lock down on the defensive end.

Spain will be in Group C alongside Slovenia, Türkiye, and Montenegro to kick off the group phase of the U18 tournament. The results of the first three games will determine seeding for the Round of 16, which begins on Wednesday, Aug. 5. The championship and third-place games will be held on Sunday, Aug. 9.

All games will be broadcast to FIBA’s YouTube channel.
