Xing Captures Individual Medal in First College Tournament

Freshman Michelle Xing tied a UCLA freshman record with a 7-under 65 in her final round to secure her first career victory.

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Freshman Michelle Xing (-9, 207) on the UCLA women’s golf team fired a final-round, 7-under 65 to capture individual medalist honors in her first collegiate tournament at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, hosted at Royal Golf Club on Wednesday. Xing finished the event at 9-under with rounds of 70-72-65, one stroke ahead of Wake Forest’s Chloe Kovelesky.

After making par on her first five holes of the final round, Xing followed with a stretch of seven birdies over eight holes to move to 9-under for the tournament with five holes to play. Her lone bogey of the day came on her 16th hole, the par-3 seventh, but she responded with a birdie on her final hole to secure the individual title by one stroke.

Xing’s final-round 65 tied the UCLA freshman 18-hole record, joining Bronte Law, Mariajo Uribe and Jane Park, and marked the lowest round ever by a Bruin in her first collegiate tournament. She became the first UCLA freshman to claim an individual title since Francesca Fiorellini won the 2025 Bruin Wave Invitational.

UCLA (+3, 867) posted the second-best team score of the day at 12-under to finish tied with Virginia for sixth place. Wake Forest (-24, 840) won the team title by 10 strokes over runner-up USC.

Xing is the second Bruin in as many years to win an individual title in her first 54-hole event with UCLA, joining Jen Lee, who earned medalist honors at the 2025 Windy City Collegiate Classic.

Junior Angela Liu (+1, 217) posted a third-round score of 5-under 67 after playing her final 10 holes bogey-free at 7-under. Liu and Xing each recorded eight birdies in the final round.

Junior Jen Lee (+13, 229) also posted an under-par final round, shooting a 1-under 71 with four birdies. Sophomore Kacey Ly (+5, 221) rounded out the Bruins’ scoring lineup with a third-round score of 1-over 73.

UCLA recorded 26 of its 49 birdies in the final round, climbing from eighth place into a tie for sixth in the team standings. The Bruins opened the season with a 5-5-1 head-to-head record.

The Bruins return to action Sept. 21-22 at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational. The event will be held at Beacon Hall Golf Club in Xing’s home province of Ontario.

UCLA (+16, 592) held steady on Tuesday in the second round the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, remaining in eighth place going into the final day of its season-opening event. Freshman Michelle Xing (-2) fired a team-low score of even-par 72, remaining in a tie for fourth place on the individual leaderboard going into the final round.

Xing closed her second round with two birdies in the final two holes, the back-to-back par-5 seventeenth and eighteenth. She maintained the second-best par-5 scoring average of any individual through the first two rounds, at 4-under par.

Sophomore Kacey Ly (+4) posted a team-high four birdies in her second round, carding a total of 1-over 73. Ly and Xing were the two Bruins to finish the front nine under-par for the round, each firing a team-low 1-under 35 on the outward side.

Senior Jennifer Seo (+7) finished her second round at 2-under par in her final seven holes on her way to carding a 3-over 75 for the day. Junior Angela Liu (+6) rounded out the scoring team for UCLA, also recording a round of 3-over 75.

Wake Forest (-20, 556) widened its first-place lead to 15 strokes after two rounds. The Bruins, at 16-over par, are two shots behind North Carolina for seventh place in the 12-team field.

UCLA returns to Royal Golf Club on Wednesday morning for the final round. Tee times to be announced Tuesday evening.

UCLA freshman Michelle Xing opened her collegiate career with a 2-under 70 Monday in the first round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at Royal Golf Club. Xing, the world’s 95th-ranked amateur, is in a four-way tie for third place.

Xing played her final 10 holes without a bogey after recording her lone bogey on the par-4 eighth. She was one of three Bruins to record three birdies, joining sophomore Kacey Ly (3-over 75) and junior Jen Lee (8-over 80).

UCLA is eighth in the 12-team field after posting an 8-over 296. Wake Forest holds the clubhouse lead at 7-under 279. Among their three Big Ten Conference opponents, the Bruins trail USC (E, 288) and Oregon (+3, 291) and lead Minnesota (+21, 309).

Joining Xing and Ly among UCLA’s counting scorers were junior Angela Liu (+3, 75) and senior Jennifer Seo (+4, 76). The four combined to play the final five holes bogey-free at 5 under.

UCLA returns to Royal Golf Club on Tuesday morning for the second round. Tee times will start at 6:30 a.m. PT.
