January 24, 2026 | Women's Tennis
BATON ROUGE, La. โ The 18th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team prevailed in its ITA Kickoff Weekend opener Saturday, posting a 4-1 result over No. 24 UCF at the LSU Tennis Complex. Olivia Center clinched the victory in three sets with the two abandoned matches also in third sets.
Center had a two-win day for the Bruins (2-0), also helping to clinch the doubles point. UCLA's Mayu Crossley and Bianca Fernandez also prevailed in singles play. Jantje Tilbuerger earned a singles victory, giving UCF (1-1) its lone point.
The Bruins advance to face host and fifth-ranked LSU in Sunday's championship match. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT. The winner will punch its ticket to next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championship event in Evanston, Ill. and Urbana, Ill. UCF meets Marshall in Sunday's consolation contest at 7 a.m.
Ahmani Guichard and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer teamed to give UCLA an advantage in doubles play, beating Marina Gatell/Daryna Shoshyna 6-2 on Court 2. Center and partner Kate Fakih then pocketed the initial point for their team, dispatching Tilbuerger/Hannah Rylatt 6-3 on Court 1.
Fernandez raced out to a first-set win and never looked back en route to a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Lauren Seye on Court 5. The victory was Fernandez's first of the young dual season. Crossley then matched Fernandez's performance on Court 2, surrendering just two total games herself in the freshman's 6-1, 6-1 display against Olivia Bergler.
Tilbuerger chipped away at the Knights' deficit, topping Guichard 6-4, 7-5 on Court 4. Fakih and Lutkemeyer would force third sets on their courts, but could not complete comebacks before Center closed out Jade Psonka on Court 6. Center's 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 performance improved her 2026 dual record to 4-0 across singles and doubles.
