No. 19 Women's Tennis Deals San Diego 6-1 Defeat
February 14, 2026 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES โ Playing its first match in two weeks, the 19th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 win against San Diego Saturday at Los Angeles Tennis Center. Olivia Center clinched the decision at 4-0, giving her team its third straight-set singles victory of the afternoon.
The Bruins (4-2) were led by Center, Kate Fakih and Ahmani Guichard, who all posted two-win days. Gabby Gregg supplied the Toreros (4-4) with their lone point. UCLA has now won back-to-back contests by a combined 13-1 score.
With the Bruins' second and third doubles pairs slow out of the gate, their top-court pair of Center and Fakih took control early and never looked back. The 64th-ranked duo picked up its fourth win in five dual results, besting Vilma Krebs Hyllested/Kristina Nordikyan by a 6-1 margin.
Each of the other two UCLA tandems dug themselves out of an early hole, but it was Guichard/Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer finishing to provide the clincher on Court 2. The Bruins dropped their initial two games with Anni Moll/Hannah Read, but charged back to prevail 6-4.
UCLA earned four singles first sets and quickly turned three of them into straight-set victories. Making her debut on Court 1, No. 37 Crossley logged her third consecutive win and fifth in six dual matches. The latest was a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Charlotte Keitel.
Adding to the total moments later was No. 119 Fakih, who turned in her second ranked victory in as many contests. Her 6-2, 6-2 triumph over No. 94 Read put the Bruins within a point of clinching โ and her classmate would do the honors.
Center registered her fifth career match-deciding win, third of 2026 and second in as many outings. The South Pasadena, Calif. native topped Maria Shmakova 6-2, 6-4 on Court 5.
Gregg put USD on the board next. She outlasted freshman Rona Rugara, who was making her collegiate debut, 6-2, 7-6(5). In an exciting finish on Court 4, Guichard secured the final five points of her 10-point, third-set tiebreaker to beat Krebs Hyllested 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(9). Finally, in a match that utilized three full sets, Fernandez got the better of Ines Leon in a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 result. Fernandez is 4-0 in dual action.
UCLA returns to action Tuesday, when LMU visits Los Angeles Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
