February 24, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES โ The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team fell to San Diego State, 4โ3, on Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
ย
The Bruins (6-2) were limited to three hits, managing just one after the fourth inning. Roman Martin pulled UCLA within a run in the sixth with an RBI double, while Roch Cholowsky and Payton Brennan recorded the team's other two hits.
ย
UCLA used seven pitchers on the night, with Cal Randall, Jake Swenson, Jack O'Connor, Elai Iwanaga, and Easton Hawk combining for four scoreless innings to close out the game.
ย
San Diego State (5โ3) did its damage with three solo home runs and an unearned run following a two-out error in the sixth. The Aztecs out-hit the Bruins 10-3.
ย
UCLA jumped in front early when Dean West worked a walk and Cholowsky ripped a base hit to the hot corner, setting up Mulivai Levu to bring West home with an RBI groundout following a well-timed double steal during the at-bat.
ย
San Diego State answered in the top of the third when Anthony Marnell IV jumped on the first pitch of the inning and drove it out to right to pull the Aztecs even at 1-1. The visitors moved in front an inning later as Tyce Peterson launched a solo shot to right, and Zane Kelly added another solo homer in the fifth to stretch the lead to two.
ย
The Bruins drew within one run in the bottom of the sixth when Cholowsky led off with a walk. Martin promptly brought him around to score when he doubled in the right-center gap. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Aiden Aguayo came up with a productive at-bat by scoring the UCLA third baseman with a ground out.
ย
UCLA would not record another hit the rest of the night, as the offense went quiet over the final three innings.
ย
UCLA turns its attention to the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series in Arlington, Texas, where the Bruins open a three-game weekend on Friday, Feb. 27. The first matchup comes at 1 p.m. against No. 20 Tennessee, marking UCLA's first neutral-site test of the season.
