No. 1 UCLA Completes Sweep With 7-2 Win Over Michigan
March 15, 2026 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES โ The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team completed its second straight Big Ten sweep on Sunday afternoon, defeating Michigan 7-2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
ย
The Bruins (17-2, 6-0 Big Ten) are off to their best conference start since 1977, when they competed in the Pac-8, and have now won 11 straight games, matching their longest streak since 2020.
ย
Roch Cholowsky powered the offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, including his 10th long ball of the season. Mulivai Levu, Roman Martin, and Dominic Cadiz each added two hits, with Cadiz driving in a pair. Trey Gudoy chipped in a pinch-hit single.
ย
On the mound, Landon Stump (1-0) delivered his best outing of the year. The right-hander fired five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven while facing only two batters over the minimum. He retired the final eight hitters he faced before turning the ball over to Chris Grothues to open the sixth.
ย
UCLA struck early in the first inning, as Martin lifted a sacrifice fly to score Dean West, who had reached on a leadoff walk. The Bruins doubled the lead in the third when Levu ripped a double down the left-field line and Martin followed with a single, setting up Cadiz's sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage.
ย
Cholowsky extended the lead later in the inning, launching a deep fly ball to left that cleared the wall for a solo homer. In the fifth, Cadiz added another RBI with a base hit through the left side to score Martin, who opened the frame with a double into the gap.
ย
UCLA broke the game open with a three-run seventh. Cholowsky smoked a bases-loaded line drive to left to bring home two, and Levu followed with an RBI single up the middle to cap the inning.
ย
Grothues, Ian May, and Zach Strickland combined for six outs across the sixth and seventh to continue UCLA's strong pitching run. Michigan finally broke a 16-inning scoreless drought with two runs in the eighth, taking advantage of two walks and a pair of hit-by-pitches.
ย
In the ninth, Easton Hawk appeared for the third straight game and slammed the door, striking out two in a clean final frame to secure the sweep.
ย
UCLA returns to Jackie Robinson Stadium on Tuesday, March 17, to host Pepperdine for a midweek matchup. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. PT, with live coverage on B1G+.
