No. 7 UCLA Completes Run-Rule Sweep of Michigan State
March 15, 2026 | Softball
ย
The Bruins (25-3, 6-0 Big Ten) extended their winning streak to 19 games and homered three times, marking their 20th consecutive game with at least one home run. UCLA's offense also worked 10 walks for the third time this season.
ย
Each of UCLA's top three hitters โ Rylee Slimp, Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery โ homered in the game. Grant is tied for the NCAA lead with 21 home runs and leads the country with 39 walks and a .723 on-base percentage. In addition to her home run, Woolery drew two walks and hit a sacrifice fly. She continues to lead the nation with 60 RBIs.
ย
Senior right-hander Taylor Tinsley pitched a complete game with five strikeouts to earn her 14th win of the season. Tinsley allowed two runs on six hits and one walk.
ย
Michigan State (13-13, 0-3 Big Ten) struck first in the opening inning. Spartans leadoff hitter Zoie Bernard doubled into the left-center gap, and a bloop single by Kendall Smiley moved Bernard to third. Designated player Sophia Grillo drove Bernard home with a sacrifice fly to Jolyna Lamar in center field.
ย
UCLA quickly erased the early deficit in the bottom half of the inning. Slimp sent Michigan State starter Jacey Schuler's third pitch of the game over the wall to tie it 1-1. Slimp's third leadoff home run of the season tipped off center fielder Sydney Doloszycki's glove and into the outfield netting.
ย
Tinsley held the Spartans scoreless in both the second and third innings. UCLA then broke the game open in the bottom of the third with four runs.
ย
Grant and Woolery opened the inning with back-to-back home runs for the sixth time in their careers. The Bruins hit back-to-back homers in all four games this weekend, including their midweek contest against LMU on March 11. UCLA has now homered multiple times in each of its last 13 games.
Megan Grant was one at-bat late today, but she finally homered. Gonna have to chat with her about that.

A fielding error with two outs by Michigan State third baseman Hannah Hawley on a pop fly off the bat of Soo-Jin Berry kept the inning alive. Redshirt freshman Aleena Garcia was running at full speed on the play, allowing both her and Berry to move into scoring position. Freshman Jolyna Lamar followed with a two-run single to center field to push UCLA's lead to 5-1.
ย
Freshman Bri Alejandre answered Michigan State's run in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly to left field, making it 6-2.
ย
UCLA added two more runs in the fifth on a Woolery sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk by Alejandre.
ย
The Bruins ended the game in the sixth thanks to more production from the top of the lineup. Slimp drove in a run with a single to right field, and Grant plated the game-ending run with a sacrifice fly to left for her second RBI of the day.
