UCLA Wins Two to Complete Play at Texas Invitational

The Bruins had an early 9:30am CT start for their opening match against North Florida and quickly disposed of the Ospreys in just 44 minutes. Harper Cooper and Alexa Fernandez took the first point on court 3 with a 21-14, 21-8 win. Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden followed suit on court 2 with a 21-9, 21-14 victory. Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd clinched the win on court 1 by beating Cameron Humphries/Mackenzie Murphy, 21-12, 21-16. Also earning straight-set victories were Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck on court 4 and Kenzie Brower Mallory LaBreche on court 5.
In the second match against Florida Atlantic, the Bruins took the first two points thanks to straight-set wins by Mathews/Alden on court 2, 21-11, 21-17, and Boyd/Perez on court 1, 21-14, 21-14. FAU cut UCLA's lead in half with a 21-18, 21-17 win on court 3 by Mia Scanlon/Klaire Vandeusen over Cooper/Fernandez, Cooper's first loss of the season. But Williamson/Dueck secured the win for the Bruins on court 4 with a 24-22, 21-17 victory. Brower/LaBreche finished with a three-set win on Court 5 for the Bruins' fourth point.
UP NEXT: UCLA will compete in the Best in the West Tournament in Laguna Beach next weekend. The Bruins will face four Top 10 teams in No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 USC, No. 4 Cal Poly and No. 10 Long Beach State.
